More Seminar 2:00pm 3:30pm Dogs welcome Save Our Galgos Espanol Petra Postma and Yeray Lopez
@Allstar Family Fun Center Activities Area
Having just returned from Spain, Petra Postma, founder of SAGE, will give us an update on rescue work in Spain and information about the situation of the Spanish hunting dogs. She will also talk with us about the need for rescue and adoption, and some details about the differences between greyhounds and galgos. Petra will introduce the Million Paw March for Justice, which is a Facebook project initiated by Jack Leonard to raise awareness about the plight of Spanish hunting dogs like the galgos and podencos. In less than 11 months, this Facebook page has earned a following of 18, 000 people world-wide who are concerned about the treatment these sighthounds receive after their hunting careers are finished.

Yeray is almost finished with "YO GALGO, " a documentary about the glory and misfortunes of the Spanish Galgo. Yeray has been filming for three years and managed to get previously unknown details about what happens to these beautiful dogs. The documentary is due to be released later this year and we will hear from him and see a preview. In his words, "This is a story that surpasses the individual. It talks about the traditions, power, folklore, and the ways in which we relate to animals and each other. In the Galgo world, we find a very particular Spain, frozen in time, hard and cold, in which the Galgo becomes an invisible figure that somehow society has accepted as the sufferer and looks away. There has always been something about the Galgo that nobody wants to talk about, but I do."
